| The Meaning of Tajweed |
Tajwid is derived from
the word "Jawwada - yujawwidu - tajwidan", which means to make or
make good.
Other understandings
according to Tajweed can also be interpreted:
اَلْاِتْيَانُ بِالجَيِّدِ
Meaning: "Everything
that brings good"
Whereas according to
terms, Tajwid is:
عِلْمٌ
يُعْرَفُ بِهٖ
اِعْطَاءُ كُلِّ حَرْفٍ حَقَّهُ
وَمُسْتَحَقَّهُ مِنَ الصِّفَاتِ وَالْمُدُوْدِ وَغَيْرِ ذٰ
لِكَ
كَالتَّرْقِيْقِ وَالتَّفْخِيْمِ وَنَحْوِهِمَا
Meaning: "Science
that gives all understanding of letters, both letter rights and new laws that
arise after the rights of letters are fulfilled, which consists of the nature
of letters, the laws of the mad and so on.
For example, Tarqiq,
Tafkhim and se for example.
The purpose of
studying Tajweed Science
To understand the
purpose of studying Tajweed, we read what is explained by Shaykh Muhammad Al -
Mahmud below:
غَايَتُهُ
بُلُوْغُ النِّهَايَةِ فِى اِتْقَانِ لَفْظِ الْقُرْاٰ
نِ عَلَى مَا
تُلُقِّيَ مِنَ الْحَضْرْةِ النَّبَوِيَّةِ اَلْاَفْصَحِيَّةِ وَقِيْلَ غَايَتُهُ
صَوْنُ اللِّسَانِ عَنِ الْخَطَاءِ فِى كِتَابِ اللّٰ
هِ تَعَالَى
Meaning: "The
purpose (studying Tajweed Science) is to be able to read the verses of the
Koran correctly (fluently) according to what was taught by the Messenger of
Allāh juga, as well as to be able to maintain an oral error when reading the Quran.
Legal Basis of
Mandatory Reading of the Quran with Tajweed.
There are 2 legal
bases regarding the obligation to read Al Quran with Tajweed, namely:
1. Al Quran
There are 2 legal
bases regarding the obligation to read Al Quran with Tajwid, namely: Allah Almighty has
said in the Qur'an:
وَرَتِّلِ
الْقُرْا
نَ تَرْتِيْلًا (٤)
Meaning: "... And
read the Quran slowly (tartil). "(Al-Muzzammil: 4)
This verse tells us to
read the Qur'an slowly so that it helps to understand and reflect on the
contents of the Qur'anic content.
In line with the
intention of the verse above Allah SWT said:
وَقُرْاٰ
نًا فَرَقْنَاهُ لِتَقْرَأَه
عَلَى النَّاسِ عَلَى
مُكْثٍ..... (١٠٦)
Meaning: "And the
Qur'an we have passed down gradually so that you read it slowly to humans (Al -
Isra: 106)
لا
تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِه
(١٦)
إِنَّ
عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْا
نَهُ (١٧)
Meaning: "Do not
move your tongue to (read) the Qur'an because you want to quickly master it.
Upon Dependence We
collect it (in your chest) and (make you smart) read it "( Al Qiyamah:
16-17)
2. Hadits
عَنْ عَاﺋِشَةَ اَنَّهُ ذُكِّرَلَهَا اَنَّ
النَّاسَ يَقْرَءُالْقُرْاٰنَ فِى اللَّيْلِ مَرَّةً اَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَقَالَتْ:
اُولۤﺋِكَ قَرَاُوْا وَلَمْ يَقْرَءُوْا، كُنْتُ اَقُوْمُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى
اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ سَلَّمَ لَيْلَةَ التَّمَامِ فَكَانَ يَقْرَاءُ سُوْرَةَ
الْبَقَرَةِ وَاٰلَ عِمْرَانَ وَالنِّسَاۤءَ فَلَا يَمُرُّ بِاٰيَةٍ فِيْهَا
تَخَوُّفٌ اِلَّا دَعَاللّٰهَ وَاسْتَعَاذَ وَلَا يَمُرُّ بِاٰيَةٍ فِيْهَا
اِسْتِبْشَارٌ اِلَّا دَعَاللّٰهُ وَرَغِبَ اِلَيْهِ
Meaning: "From is
Aisyah RA he was told that there are people who can read Al Quran in 1 night or
2 times khatam. Is Aisyah RA said: they felt they were reading but they were
not. I was with Rasulullah SAW a full night, Rasulullah SAW only had time to
read the letters Al-Baqarah, Ali ‘Imran, and An - Nisaa’. When meeting with the
verse adzab of Rasulullah SAW he continued his reading until he prayed for
protection. Likewise he did not continue reading if he met with an encouraging
verse until he prayed and hoped for it. "
And there are many
other traditions that require reading the Qur'an with tartil/slowly.
Provisions for
studying Tajweed Science
Provisions to study
recitation are fardu kifayah. It means that studying Tajweed in depth is not
required by everyone, but it is sufficiently represented by just a few people.
But if there is no one in one village who studies Tajweed, then the villagers
sin.
The provisions of
reading the Koran with the rules of recitation are Fardlu ‘Ain or is the
obligation of each individual. Therefore if someone reads the Qur'an without
using Tajweed, the law is sinful.
